Understanding your skin type

Understanding your skin type

Everyone has different type of skin even though we may be of similar age and ethnicity. Your skin is determined by genetics, lifestyle regime, age, and environment. Understanding your skin type is very important in your skincare regime as it can determine what type of skincare products are suitable for you.

There are four kind of skin types (normal, combination, dry & oily). If you are not sure what is your skin type, look for the following signs to see what kind of skin type you have.

Normal Skin type (a.ka. Eudermic skin)

Someone with normal skin usually would have a very radiant complexion and smooth skin texture. Rarely, people with this skin have imperfections. The skin is very well balanced and is free from blemishes

We want such great skin isn’t it?  However, not everyone is born with perfect skin, thus we must know what’s our skin type by looking at the symptoms you face on your skin

Combination Skin

Someone with combination skin usually have different areas of dryness and oiliness especially T-zone (nose, forehead and chin). For people with combination skin, they always have larger pores and more prone to acnes due to oily skin.

People with combination skin may need to use different type of skin products for different areas.

Dry Skin

Someone with dry skin usually have dull, rough complexion and less elastic skin. Usually, people with dry skin may lack ability to retain water and produce lesser sebum than usual skin type. Such skin is more prone to redness and sensitivity. Fine lines and wrinkles are common for people with dry skin.

People with dry skin should avoid ingredients which can dry the skin like alcohol, fragrances and always need to avoid taking long hot showers or too much uv exposure.

Oily Skin

Someone with oily skin usually have dull and shiny complexion. Enlarged pores and blemishes are commonly seen. These are all caused by excessive sebum production for the skin.

Usually oily skin can be caused by genetic, environment or wrong skincare regime. Too much cleansing or exfoliate can also strip away your skin oil and can cause sebaceous glands to produce more oil to make up for the loss of oil.
